Featuring everything from unconventional Audi dealers in China to a special Audi service center in Russia to the TDI clean diesel road trip right across the United States, the content is far more exciting than your typical annual, the creation of a team of renowned writers and photographers from around the world.

Stories and interviews are included which explore Audi’s brand theme of “Vorsprung”. Juan Diego Flórez, a star tenor, talks about the precision with which he’s developed his voice. Clint Eastwood reveals the secret of his acting and directing career which he says came down to remaining authentic. A series of local stories bring some of Audi’s cars to Montreal, Sydney and Cape Town for a trip of discovery.

BMW is really thinking outside the proverbial box with their latest concept design exercise. The GINA is a roadster concept wherein the use of sheet metal found on bodies of production vehicles has been replaced with a special, flexible, highly durable and extremely expansion-resistant fabric material that stretches across a metal structure.

Unlike traditional cars, various aspects of the bodies substructure are moveable and can be shifted by means of electro-hydraulic controls, changing the shape of the outer skin and overall design. One interesting example of this feature, becomes apparent in the headlight arrangement. When the headlights are not active they are hidden under the special fabric cover, as soon as the driver turns on the lights, the contour of the front ends changes revealing the headlights, looking a lot like a character out of the Pixar movie “Cars”.

The whole point of this exercise is to prove that rigid body panels are not a necessary design element and do not significantly improve the overall safety of the automobile. Most crumple zones are 100% dependent on good frame design and materials.

This fabric design also enforces a more green and cost effective approach to automobile design.

As all TED Prize Winner's, religion historian Karen Armstrong has expressed her wish. And TED has passed this year getting people and companies together to make it come true.
Karen's wish is that a Charter of Compassion is made, pusblished and spread around the world, sending the voices of all the three Abrahamic originated religions - Islamic, Judaic and Cristian, based on the Golden Rule that, after many years of work, she found that link all of them: compassion, love for your next one. In a time when more and more religion is misinterpreted for selfish and violent ends, this is a wish we must help to build. And in order that all voices are considered and put into this Charter of Compassion, TED has just now released a site where we can watch Karen Armstrong talking about it, as well as religious sages and common concerned people participating in the writing of this important document.
Please check out, listen and consider this most important pause for reflexion in a time like this.

HP partners with MTVu to create "The Engine Room" - millions of portfolio from creatives that work online were sent so their owners could be chosen to participate in this reality show where teams create interactive programs that will work on HP platforms. HP claims it's not to be a show, but real - the y want to take the projects and develop them, as well as incentive this kind of collaboration between professionals.

Com a nova tecnologia 3D digital (tá bom, tá bom, não é tão nova assim), você usa um óculos bem mais legal, de plástico, com lentes escuras. É bem mais cool, confortável, e o melhor de tudo: funciona de verdade. As possibilidades são inúmeras: letreiros, ilustrações sobre o filme, iluminação, objetos e, é claro, pessoas. Para ter uma idéia, além do diretor de fotografia tradicional, o filme tem outro diretor de fotografia exclusivo para 3D. Durante o show, tente não desviar do copo d’água que jogam em cima de você. Eu mesmo confesso que fiquei tentado a apertar a mão do Bono quando ele esticou o braço para o público ao som de “Vertigo”. Depois de ver tantas possibilidades, fiquei pensando com meus botões que já está mais do que na hora de sugerir um comercial 3D para os nossos clientes. O que vocês acham? Polo Ralph Lauren is innovating by launching sales through mobile in America. They know it's aimed to a small porcentage of tech-savy people, but as a fashion brand they also know they need to be innovative.

This will be functioning through codes that will be present on their print ads, mailings and on the sponsorship gadgets of The US Open later this year. The code will be giving access to their mobile window-shop, if the user has a program installed on their own cellphones.

From Forbes, David Lauren, the Senior Vice-President of Advertising at the company and son of Ralph Lauren, said:

“We recognize that in America this is going after somebody who is more comfortable with technology. The truth is that in other countries, it’s becoming a part of their culture. The trend is coming, and as a fashion company it’s very important to identify trends and get ahead of them.”

Prada's buzz: films to reveal new fragance

To create a buzz around its new fragrance for men, Infusion d’Homme, Miuccia Prada has commissioned nine young directors from across the world (Argentina, Brazil, Cuba, France, India, Italy, Korea, Spain and the USA) to create films inspired by their individual interpretations of the scent. The only caveat to the directors was that the films should be visual representations of the sensory images triggered by the perfume, and not straightforward commercials - they were otherwise given a free rein. The nine works are going to be edited into one long piece by Pietro Scalia, two-time Oscar-winning film editor. The complete film will be a synthesis of Prada’s vision of Infusion d’Homme.

Um lance todo nerd de Geometrics Informatics e Velodyne LIDAR, que escaneia sistemas geométricos e cria luz para capturar o 3D de imagens mais próximas + sistema de mútiplos ambientes com lasers para capturar os ambientes maiores, tipo paisagens. Tudo com uma forcinha do Google Code.

Devagarzinho ele está chegando… O QR code foi a aposta do grupo Schincariol para promover a sua nova bebida NS2 Black Mint na SPFW.

Ao lado do bar temático da Nova Schin (100 anos de imigração japonesa) foi montado um painel com diversos QR codes (foto abaixo). As pessoas podiam escolher um para fotograr. Todos os códigos davam direito a uma dose de NS2 Black Mint.
Para alguns sortudos os promotores davam a chance de fotografar um código especial. Esse código premiava o participante com uma “camiseta NS2 QR code” (foto abaixo). O mais legal é que o código impresso na camiseta direciona os aparelhos que o decifrar para uma frase que o participante escolheu. Eu digo “uma frase” porque a maioria das pessoas não sabe que o código pode direcionar o aparelho para uma URL. Como fui um dos sortudos e sei dessa possibilidade, direcionei minha camiseta para a URL da MobilePedia.
O processo entre escolha da frase e impressão do QR code levava aproximadamente meia-hora.
Se a ação da Motorola já causou bastante interesse no público, imagine como foi essa da Nova Schin. As pessoas estavam muito curiosas, algumas admiravam a tecnologia como se fosse coisa de um futuro distante. Enquanto estive presente a fila de curiosos foi uma constante.

Os promotores explicavam direitinho o funcionamento do QR code. Alguns curiosos ficavam encantados, e queriam saber o que deveria ser feito para ter o leitor no seu celular. Como resposta os promotores apontavam para o link do leitor da Kaywa (reader.kaywa.com).
Excelente para divulgação da tecnologia e evangelização do usuário. Muito legal!

Minha ressalva fica apenas por conta de dois fatores.

Primeiro: Os códigos só podiam ser fotografados pelos celulares que estavam com os promotores. Com isso, os menos curiosos (ou mais tímidos) poderiam achar que é uma tecnologia nova pertinente apenas àquele aparelho. Assim, não procurariam saber se existe alguma maneira de seu aparelho ler aquele código e, por conseguinte, não saberiam da possibilidade de baixar o leitor.

Segundo: Na parte de trás do flyer de divulgação (foto ao lado) existe uma breve descrição do QR code que termina desse jeito. “Utilizar é muito fácil: basta baixar um aplicativo para seu celular e sair decifrando”. Faltou explicar melhor, né? Pelo menos colocar a Url onde o leitor deve ser baixado.

Olha só: bisbilhotando o site do pessoal da kaywa consegui achar finalmente o material gráfico da young&rubicam para o bar oficial do SPFW 2008. Não é que eles colocaram QR Code no material? Quem conseguir escanear o código durante o evento, dentro do bar, lê textos sobre a cerveja nova, ganha uns drinks etc. A Dentsu foi quem mostrou a tecnologia do código para a Schin.

Quite a story. A graduate student at Berkeley- James Buck- was in Eygpt covering some anti-government protests. He and his translator were nabbed and tossed in jail, and with a one word tweet ("arrested") his network lit up and started taking action to get him out. This may be one of the more powerful examples I've ever seen of how the networks we establish for ourselves online can benefit our lives.

Some excerpts from the story (but check the whole story for all the deets):

"Buck, a graduate student from the University of California-Berkeley, was in Mahalla, Egypt, covering an anti-government protest when he and his translator Mohammed Maree were arrested April 10.

On his way to the police station, Buck took out his cell phone and sent a message to his friends and contacts using the micro-blogging site Twitter.

The message only had one word. "Arrested."

Within seconds, colleagues in the United States and his blogger-friends in Egypt -- the same ones who had taught him the tool only a week earlier -- were alerted he was being held.

Buck's urgent message is proof of the value of Twitter, Stone said. Buck's entry set off a chain of events that led to his college hiring a lawyer on his behalf.

"James' case is particularly compelling to us because of the simplicity of his message -- one word, 'arrested' -- and the speed with which the whole scene played out," Stone said. "It highlights the simplicity and value of a real-time communication network that follows you wherever you go."

Zappo's is an american online shoes' store who gets the web: they have the CEO blog on and a profile on Twitter.
Last 2 weeks they got loads of attention simply by posting a twit giving away a pair of shoes: it was the fist ever Twitter promo. response was big not for the shoes themselves, but because if the medium (sorry, i'm a McLuhan addict). as far as measurements go, twitter itself is designed perfectly for that: gender, opinions in a short sentence, time, people exchanging opinions and a very focused target. see for yourself a bit of it. and check out the name zappo's on twitter.
